Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) End of Course (EOC) Practice Test

Beyond line-of-sight operations hinge on overcoming regulatory and technological barriers. When the aircraft can’t be seen by the pilot, you must rely on formal approvals, waivers, and airspace authorizations to fly legally and safely. That means navigating regulatory demands such as remote identification, flight- and distance-restriction waivers, and procedures for operating in controlled or congested airspace. Technologically, you need robust systems to keep the mission safe without visual contact: reliable data links for command and control, dependable failsafe mechanisms if the link is lost, and effective sense-and-avoid or traffic-awareness capabilities so the drone can detect and avoid other aircraft or obstacles autonomously. These regulatory and technology challenges are the defining factors that enable BVLOS/BLOS operations, whereas visual-line-of-sight flights rely more on the operator’s direct view and do not require overcoming these barriers to the same extent.
